The Use of Drones (UAV) in Modern Archaeology

March 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm GMT

The Use of Drones (UAV) in Modern Archaeology
Explore the impact of advanced technologies being used across the world to uncover ever more detail as to our shared past.

Introducing the Birmingham and Warwickshire Archeological Society’s March 2024 lecture!

The development of drones, otherwise known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) has revolutionised many aspects of the modern working world. Heritage and Archaeology are no different, the use of drones for archaeological survey having proven to be one of the most exciting developments in recent years.

Drones enable archaeologists to collect better quality survey data faster than ever before, they allow practitioners to cover more ground than they could on foot whilst delivering data that can be used in an ever-increasing variety of ways to explore the historic environment.

Combined with recent advances in Earth Observation technologies we are entering a golden-age of archaeological prospection with these advanced technologies being applied the world over to uncover ever more detail as to our shared past.
